A candlelight protest at midnight on Friday 7 August.

“Do not be afraid of standing up for what you believe; whatever you do, no matter how small, will make a difference.”

A candle is a protest at midnight.
It is a non-conformist.
It says to the darkness

“I beg to differ”

Indian proverb

In this time of the Covid-19 pandemic we can easily forget the good news of Jesus Christ.

What is “Candle Night”?

Have you ever heard of “Candle Night” in Japan? It is an initiative that began in 2003 to encourage people to turn off their electric lights and televisions for two hours on the evenings of the summer and winter solstices, and spend some special quality time under candlelight alone or with families and friends.

The year prior to that, the Voluntary Blackout movement was started in the United States and Canada to protest the Bush Administration’s nuclear energy policy of the time. The movement called on people turn off their lights and instead to light candles.

ULCCI are asking any and all readers of our website and Facebook to light a candle at midnight on Friday 7th August 2020 and say the following prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ,
you taught us to love our neighbour,
and to care for those in need
as if we were caring for you.
In this time of anxiety, give us strength
to comfort the fearful, to tend the sick,
and to assure the isolated
of our love, and your love,
for your name’s sake.
Amen.

[please burn the candle for upto 15 minutes. burn at midnight local time where ever you are, if you can leave a comment at the end of this post when you have lit a candle for Covid-19]
